A GREAT GUY CHRISTMAS GIFT

Ok, there are only 24 days and roughly 18 hours as of this post left to shop before Christmas.  I am going to perform a stress relieving public service here.

I think we all have a someone on our shopping list that we want to remember in a special way at Christmas but really don't want to spend a bunch on like a  BIL or maybe the current love interest of a child who will be visiting.  Perhaps you have all ready spent a lot on someone ( like a spouse)  but just want something else for them to open.  The answer lies below.

Such a cool cover.  Visit the sight, click on "look inside" once there, then enjoy the tease.
This book, available at Amazon, was written by one of my favorite blog buddies, GrayQuill. His humor and insights have amused me for quite a while.

GrayQuill is not a flawless man but like James Herriott, I  find his flaws  and vulnerabilities endearing.  LOLs, knowing smiles, nods of recognition and touching stories lie in these pages.

This is a series of some of his best posts. It is not a book one has to commit a long time to per sitting. Each chapter is a separate story so there is always a stopping place and easy starting place.  Or you could blast right through it like I did.

Even though I have read most of his stories on his blog, I got lured in  again by the freshened up, polished versions plus there were many I hadn't read yet. Sorry GQ, I came late to the table.

It really is a book a guy can relate to. It is the perfect "glove compartment book". One that he can whip out at the automotive dealers to read while snow tires are being installed.

Maybe he can  take it with him to make the waiting pleasurable when he has those periodic blood lettings at the doctor's office.  To read while stuck in traffic?? Waiting for fish to bite??  Or if it is your spouse, sitting on that hard mall bench waiting for you to finish shopping? What a guy!! He deserves a treat.

The great thing is the price. Now I am not flush with disposable income so I do watch my pennies. I generally only get the free Kindle books or library books so for me to buy a book is rare. My only exceptions are for gifts.

The $7.99 price fit into my book budget. Under ten dollars is a firm guide line now days for me.  If you buy a total of $25.00 anywhere else on Amazon at the same time, the shipping is free. And no, I don't own Amazon stock--wish I did.

Ladies, this is not only a guy book but one you will enjoy also as it is a human book and you too will laugh.  I suggest reading it yourself, then giving. I have been quite guilty of enjoying a book first that I intend as a gift. Does that qualify as re-gifting or just uncool?

Regardless, I suggest you also bend your cool a little and read it first. I always feel I am  test driving the gift with a pre-read---just  making sure it is suitable mind you. That is not a lack of good manners or cheap but thoughtful.   I think that last sentence is called "spin."

Guys, buy it for yourself  but be sure to let your favorite lady read it also. She may  understand you a bit more and actually cut you a little slack in the future.

Read, enjoy, then give.

  5. Thanks for the tip. I need just such a gift for a neighbor and this sounds like just the right item.
I had to laugh because BIL at my house stands for the soon to be ex son IL but we have another name for him that begins with loser, jerk and ba*%ard. Sorry just had to share. I'm a bad puddy tat.

  7. Let's say you are just checking out your purchase to be sure it is what you expected. HEH HEH

Will check it out. My Kindle purchases are similar to yours, mainly because even old bestsellers I have missed, because I simply grew tired of dusty, moldly storage of books I could not get rid of.

  9. Patti great job in promoting it!! I have had this book and could not come up with such a creative idea. I didn't want to do an Amazon thing cause they take too much info but this is so smart! Yes it would make an ideal gift

  15. Rae,
I hope you like it. I know I enjoyed it.

    Judy,
With your schedule, I don't know how you find time to breathe. January is good.

    Linda Starr,
I know I can stand a bit of slack. Hope you like it.

    Djan,
I love that feature. It has kept me from buying(a free one) on occasion and but usually makes me take the plunge.

    Linda in NM
Ha, ha I think I have seen that on your blog before.

    Olga,
Think a fellow writer would appreciate it.

    Nitwit,
That works for me. Kindle really has spoiled us hasn't it?

    Oregon Gifts,
Thanks, I think you will like it and it should make a good gift.

I'm guessing you don't like the Amazon e book method. I do read a ton of those by first time authors since I got my Kindle.

    Muffy,
Hope is it something you can use.

    Inger,
That is important in today's economy.

    OOLOH,
I hope the people on your list enjoy it. I think books are wonderful gifts.

    Mumsy,
Guys are sometimes hard to buy for. If they like to read this should do the trick.

    Brighid,
Hope he enjoys it. Be sure to take a peak before you give it.

  22. Retired English Teacher,
Hope it fits your shopping list.

    Angie,
Those would be great times to dabble also. Enjoy.

    Linda Myers,
That is my PSA for the year.

    GQ,
My pleasure big fellow. I really enjoyed the book and think if would make a great gift. An inter office gift exchange would be another good reason. Careful, you might get your own book back.

    Cheryl,
It is only the polite thing to do, right?

    Kay,
Ha ha, I had never thought about that. They don't go good with shorts.

I think you and I met through his blog.

    Judy,
Thanks for the follow up. I am sure the party is the highlight of their year and I am glad they get to go even if to serve. What a great program.

  24. Great book review Patti. I always love when you tell us about a good book.
He came by my site the other day so now I know how he found me. lol
I see nothing wrong with you reading it first before giving it as a gift.
I am pretty sure I have received books the same way and does not bother me in the least.
Hope your having a good weekend
    Love
    Maggie

  25. Patti I may be less able to post since hubby is scheduled for bypass on the 9th. Odd that this had to come our way now but that's just the way it is. Hope you are keeping well.

  26. Ginnie,
I thought so and hope others do.

    Grandma Yellow Hair,
I know, I often wonder how people find me and then I find out we visit the same sites. Glad it doesn't bother you if a book is preread. I know it wouldn't me.

I am so sorry to hear about your husband's pending surgery. I guess it is wonderful that they caught it and they have gotten so good with that surgery these days.
I will keep him in my prayers for a smooth surgery and quick recovery.
