A BLOGGER GRIPE AND HUH???

I have tried to hold my peace about New Blogger but I do have a problem that no one else seems to mention.  My Reading List has become completely unreliable.

I use to read daily from one  TimeGoes By  post to the next though not always non stop. Often I would write down the name of the last blog I read and take a break.    For some reason with the new Blogger, the list seems to just shuffle unpredictably. If I stop on Hootin' Anni's blog, one would think I could pick up reading on the next one in line as I always have in the past.  But no longer.

The next time I access Blogger, a blog I have previously read and commented on earlier is now at the top of the new post list and there are several unread blogs below it before getting down  to Anni's.  Come on. I have to scan the whole list every time.

I just hope I haven't missed commenting on your post but if I have, don't blame me, blame Blogger.  Anyone else having this problem?

                                  HUH ??

As I was coming through town the other day, I saw the remnants of an annual festival filling the streets.  The main reason for the festival was cancelled due to Covid--the food and events---but the vendors had arrived and set up their wares.  I was casually looking at the booths as I drove slowly by when I saw a sign that made me say--"HUH??"

The booth was selling, WEAPON CARRYING PURSES

Have we come to that ladies?  So I looked it up on the Internet and there is such a thing.

I do own a gun but I can't imagine carrying it in my purse. I just don't have a need. Heaven help us if we get to the point where there is a need.  I do know now that I will be overly polite to any woman with a purse that has a zipper in a unusual place.

Ladies, do you have one? Would you get one??  Or if you are a man, would you  get one for your spouse or Mom?

Isn't that the truth. My gun is so heavy that I would hate to carry it around with all my other stuff:)

  2. I havn't noticed anything odd happening to my blog list, Patti. Touch wood! Routinely carrying a weapon around sounds like a very bad idea to me. Carrying a cell phone to dial 911 seems a lot more prudent. (Plus my marksmanship is not what it was.)

So glad Blogger is behaving for you. You are so right, a cell phone should be our weapon of choice.

  3. Patti, I think my “blog reading list” is set up the same as yours, blogs with new posts at the top. But I just noticed this morning—when you post a new blog, you go to the top of my reading list within the hour. But when someone like DJan from “Over the Edge” posts a new blog, it takes 3-4 hours before she goes to the top of my reading list. Why? We all I all use the same blogging platform (Blogger).

BTW, ever since Blogger switched to their new interface you can no longer change the background picture of your blog. My face in my blog’s banner is 3 years old, I was thinking of updating it but now I can’t. (I know I’m not alone, there’s a long list of bloggers with the same complaint.) I wonder if they’ll ever fix these things?

As for those gun carrying purses—I don’t carry a handbag (haha) but this still scares me. But if anyone deserves to carry a gun, I’d say women do.

Could our different time zones make a difference? I have no idea. Hum, wonder if we can change our profile pictures. Mine is so outdated but maybe that is best:)

  4. Oops--I miswrote DJan's blog "Eye on the Edge"--this is what happens when you read & post a response 10 minutes after waking up! BTW, I am against gun carrying--I liked what Florence said about carrying a cellphone instead :)

  5. I really don't want to live in a world where people carry guns on a daily basis. Too many hot heads out there. The gun lobby loves us all scared of each other...it sells more guns.

I haven't noticed what you're talking about with the blog lists but I may just not be paying attention.

Totally agree about guns. There are too many people who reach for their guns when angry. We are getting too wild west for me.

  7. My reading list started listing posts from a blogger that had not published for several years and no current blogs at all. That lasted for two or three days.

I don't like guns. I like the comment that said carrying the cell phone and dialing 911. Yes!

  9. I have that issue as well. And I know I've missed posts because I'll read something and think, when did that happen so I go back to older posts and there it is. This new blogger is certainly not an improvement.

Yikes, okay that seems a little extreme. However, I read a story about a 2 year old who pulled his mother's gun out of her purse (in a store no less) and shot her dead. So perhaps if one feels the need to carry a gun, a separate pocket is probably a good thing.

So sorry you are having the same problem. I too hope I haven't missed posts because of it.
That gun story is horrifying. Often children shoot eachother. We just need to quit carrying.

  10. No to the gun! Never, nope, not in this lifetime.
As for blogger I have different issues daily. The ones I post are now sometimes working. I can not get email notifications when folks comment now. And you can't make the change in settings because it is "grayed out" I have not made peace with the new blogger. I may kill it though.(so much for rays in 6!)

  11. My beef with new Blogger is the photos. At first I could really enlarge my photos (beyond xlarge) and was liking that for certain ones. Now, that option seems to have disappeared. I have changed my header with no problem. I just go to my side list if I want to read a certain blog. Otherwise, I skim down from recent to older. I definitely think they are some glitches! I can't imagine carrying a gun and would be worried if I was with someone who was carrying. There is already too much violence in this world. Better not to have the immediate option to shoot someone!

  12. Barb,
Your blogger complaint seems to be the most common. Has to be tough on folks like you who post such cool photos.
You are so right on not good having the option of shooting someone readily available.

  13. Like Barb I have the photo issue. I think the time it takes for the new blogs to come through may have be due to how we get them. My main issue is I like to refer back to older blogs with links and such (like to day I am referncing an od car accident) and the scroling down reuired is much more difficult than the page to page thing I used to do and the search function of the older blogs is terrible. I am very much not a fan. But I also am not knowledgable enough to move to wordpress on my own, even if i wanted to, lol. I would love to practice shooting as a skill or hobby at the range and ay do that but no,no gun carrying around in or out of a purse.

    1. Barb,
Me too on wanting to move. So far I haven't enjoyed anything I would call an improvement with the new one.
Interesting you have the same problem as the other Barb. You are both from Colorado. Hope you are safe from fires also.

  14. I think, in Texas, you would not be able to carry a gun in your purse
...wouldn't that be considered a "concealed" weapon? Maybe, not sure. But you'd need a special license to carry a concealed weapon. Besides, too heavy. For home protection, yes in a drawer. But to carry in a purse, no. I guess, I would use a holster if it comes down to it...but, thank God, no need YET for public display !!!

As for my reading list, I use my phone now & reading list never worked. So, I have two pages of blogs I follow on my phone & read daily from there (sometimes, like yours, I know to check on Monday & follow up to read your reply later in the week.)

    1. Anni,
Here in Arkansas if you have a permit you can carry in church. And yes they are too heavy for me also. Hope we never get the need to pack in public.

  15. A friend of mine carries her gun in her purse all the time. I'm pretty sure there are women sitting in church every Sunday who are armed as are several men. Yes, we have come to this because there are some very dangerous people who are not afraid to attack people at random as we have seen on the news lately. I'd rather be armed and ready rather than be a victim. I believe most gun owners are very responsible and people would probably be amazed how many people are armed and not one single person ever gets shot. I actually feel safer knowing someone is armed beside me. But I grew up with guns and my brothers even had guns in their cars at school. There were never any school shootings back then, either.

  16. Pretty sad comment on our society if we've come to people carrying weapons -- yes, I know they already do in some states and I think it's sick. Obviously, I don't have one of those purses. I shot guns and did some target stuff when I was young but long since concluded there were better ways I wanted to spend my time.

As for Blogger, my blog is pretty bare-boned so not a lot they can screw up. I should do more with my page and may get around to it one day as have only changed it a couple times or so since I started. Last time Blogger changed they reduced some of the header items to just regular size typing print which I haven't liked and don't know why they did, plus the color is poor now, too from their previous change -- not what I had at all.

As for now, my biggest complaint is I can no longer copy and paste from WORD to a new post. I don't know if it's a Word change or a Blogger issue. What that means is I have to line up the two pages and type it all over again. Given how I compose it's much better for me to do it on Word than in the Blogger New Post area, then copy and paste to Blogger to add labels, etc. before a final preview and scheduling for publishing.

I thought I was bare bones also with few pictures but it found a way to irritate me anyway.
I use to do the Word first and don't know why I stopped. Now since you are having that problem, I am glad I no longer do that.

  18. My Blog List doesn't seem to be acting up. I do get a delay on DJan's Sunday post, which I expect to see fairly early on a Sunday morning if I am up soon enough. If it's not there I just scroll down the blow list to find the last post, click, and the new one comes up.
I want nothing to do with guns and it makes me sad to think that people feel the need to pack them around.

  19. Weapon carrying purse? From what I've seen in movies most women carry a large enough purse and have their gun in that. No need for a special pocket. I don't have one of course and will never get one. We don't do guns out here. Farmers have them for shooting rabbits or foxes, occasionally for putting down injured stock. In towns and cities the only people with guns are criminals and police.

    1. river,
Varmint guns and for occasional mercy killing of animals use to be our only need for a gun. Times are sadly changing. Now here, people feel the need to protect them selves against criminals or the deranged.

As to the new Blogger. I honestly have found it much easier to post an entry than before but the whole template that I use is very simple (by my choice) so I don't have any comparisons with the problem you mentioned. It would drive me nuts too.

  27. I'm sort of OK with the new Blogger, so far. I just go down my sidebar and it seems to be working OK. Have you checked your Layout and have it set to most recently updated for blogs on your sidebar? I don't know if that would help, but that's what I use.

And no, I definitely don't have a gun on me or in the house. Too spooooky.
