STATS AND CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA

Do you ever check your stats?  One thing I have gotten pleasure out of checking is my various post titles that still get hits. If you have Blogger, click on Stats then scroll down. When you run out, hit "more posts."

I am always amazed at the posts that pop up there.  Why did someone click on that post? Was it a key word from Google search, a link from a picture or just random?

Regardless, there will be posts from when I first started blogging still getting hits. The fun thing is to click on the post since I usually have no idea what I wrote about in 2010. Sometimes I think, "Hey, not a bad post Patti." Other times I wonder what the heck had I been thinking or had I just phoned in the post.

What is heart warming yet sometimes very sad is to read the comments.  Some of you have been with me from the beginning. Some were around for a while, then just disappeared. When I click on their name and see that they haven't posted in years, I am concerned that they might not be OK. I can only hope that they just burned out with the process of blogging and went on to other things.  Regardless, they are missed.  Sometimes I smile, sometimes a tear falls.

Anyway, if you want a reunion of sorts, check out your Stats.

Now for a Christmas gift idea. If you have anyone on your list who is a cat person, the book Not So Sweet Toffee, is one I recommend.

Can be found on Amazon here

There is a  Kindle version and I understand you can gift a Kindle book to someone who has the device. This link tells you how. The good thing is that way there are no supply chain problems. If you want to challenge the supply chain, you could order the paperback.

I know most authors like you to read their book from cover to cover in one sitting.  Sorry Toffee but I am savoring you like a fine wine. This book, written in diary form, is very funny and true of most cats. Toffee is a pistol who tells it like she sees it, sparing no feelings. I read her between heavier books as kind of a mind cleanse. She  makes me smile, giggle or just nod my head in agreement while giving Minnie knowing looks.

This is the perfect gift for someone who loves cats or for yourself like I did.

Toffee dominates the  home of the author of the blog I enjoy from the UK,  Around My Kitchen Table.

Hope you enjoy and don't forget to check your Stats.

Thanks for the heads up. (I used to read my blogger stats, but haven't in ages).

I am always amazed when I see that really old posts get hits. I can never figure why. Think you will have fun with it--I have.

  3. I never check my stats, but I DO have a widget on my blog (in the right sidebar) that shows what (if any) old blogs were revisited in the last 30 days. Every once in awhile I'll see a post in that 'Revisited' list that wasn't there before. To be honest, my older blogs embarrass me a lot, the longer they stay hidden the better! I also have a 'Visitors Map' in my sidebar that shows the various locations of people who visited and the approximate time. (Every day around 9am I get a visit from someone in Washington DC, who the heck could it be?) Patti, I need to check that book out--for me! I used to roll my eyes at this kind of stuff, but the older I get, the more I seem to enjoy it :^)

  4. Never checked my stats before, Patti, but I did just now. Turns out my food tip (Better Than Bacon) was the most popular. And I'm not even a 'foodie'. Downloaded the Kindle version of Not So Sweet Toffee. You've never steered my wrong yet!

Had to smile, I still haven't gotten that Vegan bacon yet. It is on my list though. Oddly one of my biggest hits is (Garlic in your Coffee). I think people assume I was serious and that it wasn't just a dumb accident.
Think you will enjoy Toffee. She is fun.

  5. I've never checked stats, but I will. I do think about some old commenters and bloggers who seemed to have completely gone silent. I always wish I could find out what's going on with everyone from the early days.

  7. I read my stats daily, but never thought about clicking on the title of an old post to see who commented. LOL. Might be a nice thing to do. As for cats, sounds like a good book for someone who likes cats. I don't like cats, sorry.

  8. I forgot about the stats and haven't looked at them for years. Early on, these things were important, now I've settled down to enjoying communicating with those of you who stayed and became blogger friends. But I will go and check today, just for the fun of it.

  10. I haven't paid any attention to stats. I also don't respond to comments - I assume that unless that person comes back to check they won't see my answer. At least that's how it works for me when I respond on someone else's post.

The book sounds hilarious - getting into a cat's mind is not an easy thing. I'd have to get paperback as Kindle isn't available in Canada. We have something called Kobo which is basically the same thing, but Amazon doesn't sell those products. Silly!

  11. I'm not sure how to check my stats, but I sometimes do delve into my past posts to relive certain periods of my life. It can be fun, funny, horrifying or heartbreaking. I agree about the commenters. I have a few original ones, some newer ones and many that no longer blog. A few have died. Others disappeared and it's a mystery. We shared important and emotional moments together and it meant a lot to me, although the blogging relationship didn't continue. :( I'm a person who likes closure, thus it does bother me. (too much)

I'm like you and need closure. I have lost some bloggers who have died and it really crushed me to learn of it. When I don't hear, I try not to think of the worst and just hope they got bored with blogging.

    2. I have a shell site at Blogger so that I can comment easily on blogger sites. My active blog is at http://teacherwoman.typepad.com
My blog's name is Stargazer. I don't allow it to be googled, so perhaps I wouldn't have any stats?

Thank you for the link. I found your blog and enjoyed it but tried twice to leave a comment and it wouldn't let me. I'll figure it out. Thanks again.

    4. It was a nightmare to leave a comment on blogger before the shell site, and Wordpress is also a pain. Some people say that it's tough to leave comments on typepad sites too. It should be easy. :( Sorry about that!!

    5. In my experience, it's often a browser issue and if I switch (or update) my browser, I can sometimes leave comments. Let me know if it continues not to work and I'll get after typepad! :)

  24. Yes, I've occasionally looked at my stats, having some of the same reactions you described. I've enjoyed viewing what countries show up as having readers which is when I discovered after that previous President was elected I was having hundreds and hundreds of contacts in Russia that would last for the first few weeks of each month. I don't know when that started as I don't routinely pay attention to all those different items, like stats, that we can view.
Eventually, those contacts stopped. I thought very curious.

  25. I've looked at my stats, but usually it's just the recent posts that get the hits because I had to take myself off the web crawler. My kids got nervous thinking I was too much "out there." I do miss seeing the hits though.
