ADVANTAGES TO A NASTY COLD

This is a rework from 2011 which must have been my last nasty cold.

Nasty colds are common levelers. They don't care how rich or righteous you are. If they gets a toe hold on your body, you are toast.

HOWEVER, THERE ARE SOME REAL ADVANTAGES TO A NASTY COLD

You learn to absolutely appreciate even mediocre health.

Exercise doesn't have to be put on the back burner. Just holding up that 40 pound head is great for the neck muscles and racking coughs are as effective a massive number of sit ups for the stomach muscles. I think I have developed an ab. Would that be a one pack?

You can feel sorry for yourself with no guilt.

If you have obligations you wish to duck, hey, it's the perfect excuse. I got to put off a dentist appointment.

You no longer feel any obligation to be sweet or likable. Snarling is accepted and feels pretty darn good.

House cleaning can wait tilwhen ever. You are excused.

HOW YOU CAN TELL YOU ARE FINALLY WELL

You can actually smell the milk is sour before tasting it.

People recognize your voice on the phone.

Your cough begins to sound fake.

You start accepting invitations.

A sudden urge to clean house hits.

**********************

Or you can do like Olga at "Confessions of a Grandma"recently did and paint two rooms while sick. You were kidding weren't you Olga? Of course not being able to smell the paint might have been a plus.

Ok I still can't smell anything but Vicks now but I really am better. Spoiled food is still a wait and see event and my cough is almost sounding fake.  I am coming out the other end.

I know several of you have enjoyed this malady and just hope you are also almost there if not all the way there.

Breathe free and embrace your non-crabby self as he or she emerges into the light once more.

  2. Just to be clear, I was recovered when I took on the painting. For me, it started suddenly and ended just as suddenly--like a switch turned off and then was flipped back on three days later.
Glad that you are feeling better

Man, wish I could find that switch:)) You still impress me to have done what you did with little recovery time.

  4. FINALLY over mine. Unfortunately Mrs picked it up, and had it a bit worse. She's better now, too.
I speak for a living over the airwaves and phone, so it can be entertaining. Miserable, but entertaining.

Ouch, I bet you had to repeat your self.
So glad both you and the Mrs. are better now. Let it be one and done.

  5. It always amazes me that something that causes so much lost work time and so much misery to pleople is allowed to flow inched in this country. Apparently no one is researching a vaccine for the common cold.

You are so right and that is one research I would gladly contribute to.

  6. Don't we all (ME TOO) love excuses for not doing some of the things we NEED to do..... I'm GUILTY. Luckily though, it's been many years since I had a nasty cold... I regularly swear by 1000mg of Vit. C... That seems to help --plus trying to stay away from sick people!!!!!

Hope you had a nice Easter --and hope you are doing okay physically.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

    1. Betsy,
Yep, a little slacking off makes life interesting. I may have to check into regular C. It's those sick people that usually get me.

  7. When I have a cold my wife wants to fluff my pillow and nurse me back to health, which is really nice even though I'd much rather be left alone to feel sorry for myself.

  10. You did point out some advantages that come with a cold.
I would say you are doing very well in the health department if you haven't had a cold in 5 years. You must eat a lot of sauerkraut. LOL

Ha ha, don't know about the sauerkraut but I was a bit surprised it had been so long also. The blessing of blogging.

  11. Well, you might be able to feel sorry for yourself without guilt, but hardly anyone will feel sorry for you. After all, it's "only" a cold. Glad you are better. This is a terrible time of year to get a cold. Seems to linger longer.

Ha ha, that is so true. How soon we forget. The only ones who truly feel sorry for us are those in the throes of a cold or fresh out of one. It has a short memory shelf life.

  12. I had never thought of a "good" cold being a work out for the body, but you are quite right, with the right marketing a cold could prove very popular amongst body builders, athletes, and fitness fanatics! I am most impressed that you are developing muscles... the only thing I ever got out of illness as a child was a hernia! Hope you are feeling much better soon! Px

  14. But never lie and use a cold for an excuse because then you can be sure one will strike.

Ha ha, that is ever the truth. I once used the 24 hour flu excuse only to get food poisoning within the week. Pretty sure I wasn't believed.

  15. OMG, I laughed so hard at this post! It's been a few weeks since I rid myself of my last cold but I can relate to everything you said.

Hope the remnants of the cold are gone soon. As for the housework, whenever sounds good to me. :)

I am delighted you saw the humor and I think the recentness of your cold helped. It is so easy to forget the miseries of a cold and to dismiss it once enough time passes. Your memory was fresh.
So glad you are better now.

  16. I've escaped having many colds thus far. I used to never get one when I was taking garlic tablets daily. I need to get back into that habit. There's a lot of viruses going around in our area now and this is such a bad time to be sick with spring arriving. Hope your cold is kicked to the curb real soon! Take care.

  23. Knock on wood here, please I cannot get sick! My mom has just started chemo and I just can't. I've doubled up on my vit c and had my flu shots. During the flu season I put antibiotic cream up my nose...I know that sounds stupid, but I know some folks who swear by it. I hope you are feeling a lot better!
