EYE FRECKLES / ROBERT BRAULT

Has your eye doctor ever told you that your have eye freckles?  I don't mean around your eyes, but in them? Just when we thought we knew all the things that could go wrong with us. Sigh.

Evidently, these rascles are showing up more frequently and like the freckles on your skin, they can become melanomas.

I need to renew my driver's licence in July so I thought ---even though my glasses seemed fine that I'd get some new ones so as to pass the eye test with flying colors. It had been many years since my last exam.

The cute little doc was upbeat and said there was very little change in my prescription but that he recommended that I have a photo taken of the inside of my eye as he saw some freckles in there.  I had an ocular photo done 15 years ago by another doctor and while it is an expensive test, I thought a current baseline photo might be a good idea.

I saw the freckles when he showed me the pictures. Like regular skin problems, the parameters for serious disease are similar. Irregular border, different color and raised freckles are the worrisome ones. Luckily mine looked Ok and I only need a follow up in a year.  Just something else to think about folks. If you want more information, go here.

One in ten folks have them. As far as I know, you can't prevent them but they do need monitoring. I hope you are among the lucky 9.

Robert Brault

Rick Lewis images, Robert's words

Sometimes a favorite blogger just quits blogging and there is nothing we can do but miss them. Robert Brault was one of those for me. This man is a quote master. He can boil down a complex thought into just a few words.

I was delighted to see he is back now and is giving us one quote per day.  He also has an archive of his daily thoughts going back to December that you can access on his site.   I dare you to visit and not find some saying that speaks directly to you.  You can find him at this site.

Below are some of his that spoke to me recently.

"If only mankind could start all over again--and this time try it as womankind."

"There are Seven Deadly Sins, of which, so far only Envy and Greed have organized politically."

"Wealth and wisdom are seldom combined, for the person who achieves one, no longer desires the other."

"The power of a tweet? Well, for one thing, it makes possible an appeal to mob psychology without having to assemble a mob."

"A question to occasionally ask yourself is this:"What did I approve today by remaining silent?"

All quotes by Robert Brault.

Have a good, freckle free day.

  1. Grrr. Been wrestling with Blogger this morning and had to retype my post and republish. In the process I lost Djan's comment.

The print on your post is so small I almost couldn't read it, Patti, but I persisted. I hope your eye freckles are benign, and thanks for introducing me to Robert Brault. Have a wonderful day! :-)

  4. Our eye doctor does this test every year along with our normal checkup... or at least the picture he takes looks similar to the ones you showed. But no one has ever mentioned 'eye freckles'. Thanks for the heads up.

If you have all ready had the imaging and freckles haven't been mantioned, then you are probably one of the lucky nine. Congrats.

  5. I needed this reminder to call my eye doctor for an appointment. I have never heard of eye freckles so now I can't wait to tell my friend Ginnie about them because that must be the only eye problems has not experienced. Or maybe I will just keep quiet so as not to jinx her.

Oh dear, maybe she doesn't need to know. However if she has had a lot of eye problems, I am sure she has been screened for the freckles. My doc said they have really been cropping up lately. Hope that is one worry she never has.

  6. Dear Patti, I just want you to know that I got my first Effie Leland Wilder book from the library yesterday. It's "Over What Hill?" I think it's her second book. I'm eager to read it on the recommendation you made in a recent posting.

I'm so glad that your eye freckles are not the truly bad kind. Getting monitored once a year will be worth it as it will help you keep ahead of any problems. Peace.

  7. Well---I hope that we never get Eye Freckles... After what George and I have been told recently, we don't need anymore bad news. (George has Macular degeneration and now high blood pressure. I have high cholesterol and now found out that I have some Osteoporosis in one of my hips.... Don't need more bad news!!!!! Dang.) I enjoy reading Robert Brault's quotes... Thanks for sharing....

    Hugs,

Yikes, you two are carrying a load but hopefully since the conditions have been found, they can be successfully treated. All the walking you do should help with the osteoporosis plus some of the drugs they have today. Take care, keep doing what you are and be well.

  12. Glad you checked your eyes. My friend's mom had cancer in both eyes and became blind. I have mine checked once a year because of my type 1 diabetes, so I imagine if any freckles would show up, I would find out then. Great quotes. Glad your friend is back to blogging.

Sadly cancer and often removal of the eye is a result which is why we should get out eyes examined regularly. I plan to do better.

The good thing is that they are aware and are monitoring. My doc says it is rare they become serious but like our skin, we need to be aware. Congrats on being in the nine.
