IT WORKS AND GRINDING

Several of you were wondering if the static eliminators I wrote about in my last post worked. It seems several of you also suffered from Winter's practical joke--static shock and were hopeful.

I am delighted to say they work quite well.  It is such fun as I touch the gadget to metal to see the middle light up with the zap that had been meant for me and I feel nothing.

It took a  short while to learn how to use it properly. The instructions are brief though are in both English and Chinese.  I learned that sometimes I carry more of a charge than others and have to let it do its job and not rush it.  It is so cute as it sizzles and glows.

They send you 4 of them for around $10.00 so I have them spaced out where needed.  One by my computer, one on my key chain for my car and one by the couch. That leaves me a spare but I am sure I will find a place for it.  I am religious using it and am grateful to whoever invented it.

Me and my pacemaker are happy campers

Recently I got a letter from my Dentist of the past 12 years.  It seems he is closing his practice. He is a relatively young man in his 50's but is suffering from back problems. I got the letter on Thursday and by Friday, I had a toothache. Fantastic timing.  Was this in my head? Did I bring it on myself?

I was able to find a new dentist that my friends highly recommended and he was able to get me in on Monday. Not a fun weekend but doable and Tylenol knocked it down enough.

Then the weird set in.  My new dentist said my tooth was just fine but he asked me if I were a grinder.  I smiled as I told him I hadn't been but I may have taken it up trying to deal with the world situation and politics. That brought a chuckle from him and he nodded his head vigorously in agreement.

Lucky for me that he thought it funny. It probably wasn't smart of me to hint at a political position while  a man was poking around my mouth with sharp tools.

He suggested I try a little avoidance. So I have started fast forwarding past the political news and low and behold, my tooth is now fine. I may be less informed about things I have no control over but I am no longer a grinder and nothing hurts. Works for me.

Have you ever had frustration or stress cause you to develop physical pain?

  1. Hooboy. I started suffering from GERD last fall. Right after the election as a matter of fact. Coincidence? I think not!News avoidance works just as well as any kind of medication.

I agree. I'll bet a lot of illness today is news related. Avoidance is the right price also.

  2. Wonderful thoughts and shame about the old dentist, a bit ironic too. But all in all, good that you got another one. Greetings.

  3. I get physical pain in teeth and sinuses from hayfever when the sinus pressure builds too much my teeth are affected because most of those facial nerves are connected. I've had a lot of root canal work and lost a few teeth because of it. I'm not a grinder, but I do clench the jaw and teeth, it's an inherited thing, my mum did it and now we all do, me and my kids.

I have had several of those sinus toothaches also. This one fooled me for it was in my lower molar and they aren't affected by the sinuses. Interesting how your whole family are clenchers. Wonder if there is a gene for that?

  5. I'm a grinder and clincher. Very bad for your teeth. I'm glad you situation is improved.

I'm glad the static shock thingies are working for you. Static shock is such an annoying thing.

I am a bit surprised how many of my readers are grinders or clinchers.
Yes, I am delighted with my new gadget.

  6. I have a bite plate to wear when I'm in a grinding and clinching mood. You only have to wear at night to bed and it does help.

I'm glad the static thing works! I have them on my wish list at Amazon and will order when I have enough stuff saved up for free shipping. I got several shocks yesterday so the season is here.

I may have to check into getting one of those if I have any more trouble.
I think you will love the zap eliminator. I smile every time it saves me from a zap.

  7. I had significant GI problems until the right medication was found. While I had the problems, I apparently began grinding and would wake up every morning with sore jaws and teeth. A mouth guard at night did the trick. And helped me fall asleep knowing I would not awaken in pain.

Several have mentioned the mouth guard and how well it works. Not sure I can afford the dentist version but I may try an OTC one.

  8. Lovely to read you again. Yes, my fibro and I are on the no emotional reaction train right now. If I get tense or stressed out, my lower back and legs get all sorts of unhappy and I can't walk. So I am trying meditation, change of diet and walking, walking, walking (seems like an easy thing but it most certainly is not). I drink lots of "calm" tea and take my CBD oil. It helps alot. xoxo Oma Linda (glad to be back in the blogosphere)

I like the methods you are using to fight the fibro. Often there is so much we can do for ourselves. Big believer in meditation. I'm doing the walking thing now also. Hope all your methods give you some relief. Great to see you back blogging. You were missed.

  9. I have had to start letting things go that I can't do anything about, constant worry causes major stress and can shut your body down, stress was attributed to a TIA stroke that I had, after finally recovering from that last one, my worries are very rare now.

Isn't it amazing how much energy we can put into things we have no control over? So glad you have learned to let go, I am learning.

  10. I have had grinding problems in the past and wore a night guard for a while. That seemed to help. We don't listen to or watch the news at all. We do keep track of the daily wackiness via the internet, but it's quiet and we choose our sources wisely. Glad you found a good, new dentist.

You are so smart to filter your news. True, if it is in print, you can chose to read or not. I know I feel better using a filter. Ahhh.

  11. I grinded once during the time when I was having some dental work done. I got a mouth guard...worked wonders... BUT--I no longer grind anymore ---so don't use the guard now.

I don't watch the news or political stuff any longer... It truly is very stressful no matter which side of the fence you are on!!!!

    Hugs,

You are so right. Neither side is getting a free pass right now out of the stress machine. Tuning it out is such a relief.

  12. I am a clincher. Sometimes I wake up in the night with a death grip on my teeth. Other times it doesn't wake me up but I can tell by my aching neck muscles that I was clinching again.

  15. I cut way back on my news - less TV, newspapers - online and paper, Facebook, etc. It helps, but some anxiety remains. I don't think I will be cured until the current POTUS is out.

  16. I don't grind my teeth, though I sometimes clench my teeth. My pain from stress, however, is most often found in my neck and shoulders. I tense up so much that it takes massage therapy to get the knots out.

Love the idea of the static eliminators. Who the heck thinks of these things?

Current events just make me grumpy.

  18. Good to hear your tooth is fine. I stay away from news on the TV, it could make a person grind her teeth for sure. I do stay informed via the written word.

I agree on the written word. At least it doesn't assault the ears and you can pick and choose what you want.

  19. Glad to hear your tooth will be okay and that your static zappers are doing their job.
I don't listen to the news because I can't stand the media, of which most is so biased it's not even funny. I do read the news headlines online and pick out the articles and read columns that I feel are mostly non-partisan. So far, I don't think it's affected my health. :)
    Have a great week!

  20. Glad your defusing static blockers work. I have static reactions from time to time, but none in recent years for whatever the reason.

Hope your new dentist is one you like. Must have been a surprise with your guy retiring. The only teeth grinding I’ve ever experienced has been when I sleep, so I used a mouth guard. Dentist sells expensive one, or can buy on internet inexpensive one to easily mold to teeth. All unrelated to state of affairs with govt and world for me.

  21. joared,
Most of you have convinced me to get a guard but I won't get on of those $300 ones from a dentist. Instead I'll get one that I can mold myself. Internet--here I come. Thanks.

  22. I tried soft teeth guards and would wake up chewing on them damaging my teeth even more. Now I'm walking, staying away from tv, and have this posted on my fridge - "Your mind is a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers. Or you can grow weeds." I now have lots of flowers.
