LOOKS LIKE WE'RE BREAKING UP

He looked at me with twinkling eyes and a cross between a sad yet mischievous smile.

"You do realize we have gone as far as we can. There is no more I can offer you. I no longer want to see you," he said.

Then with a broad grin he added, " I guess you could say we are breaking up."

I failed to hold in my urge to laugh out loud and said, "At least you made our break up painless."

And that is how my chiropractor let me know I was healed and needed him no more.

Love a doctor with a sense of humor.

The man had taken me from a pain wracked, limping mess to a straight walking, almost pain free and grateful person in 6 sessions.  I understand that 6 sessions are required by Medicare for them to cover chiropractic care. All I was left with was the $5 co-pay for each of the 6 sessions. Thirty bucks was a bargain to regain easy mobility.

My primary care doctor also had pronounced my Costochondritis cured on the same day but without the chiropractor's dramatic flair. I am pretty sure the wonky way I was having to walk contributed to the rib problem.

I had to laugh when Joared commented on my last post that when she saw the word Costochondritis she thought it was my way of saying I was addicted to Costco. If we had one close by, that could have been a possibility.

What is kind of interesting is that my primary said he normally sees a case of the Costochondritis once a week but last Friday when I saw him, he said he had seen 3 cases that week alone. Wonder if it is going around? Don't be alarmed if your ribs suddenly hurt. Be sure to check with a doctor but it is quite likely the self limiting condition and controlling the pain is the only treatment.

So I am proud to say I am almost pain free for the first time in months and boy does it feel good. My shoulder is still a bit cranky but that has been going on for 4 years so I am use to it and can work around it.

I am feeling so good thanks to two good doctors and Elaine who wouldn't let me do a thing for two weeks.  It is almost worth having pain to appreciate not having it anymore. Ahhhh. Pardon me while I smile.

What made you smile this week?

  3. Wow, I'm so happy for you. To be pain-free is wonderful and made even greater by knowing that you've found a doctor you like. Him having a sense of humor is a bonus.

The six treatment rule before Medicare will cover the treatments is either new or only applies to your condition. I've had single treatments from a chiropractor covered last year. But rules change so quickly.

    1. Jean,
Not sure about the Medicare rules. I am not sure he just tells us that to guarantee we will come back 5 more times but I actually needed all 6.

  4. Yeah for pain relief!
I was actually having a good, busy week until I turned on the radio on my way to a yoga class and heard the week's news in review on public radio. Wiped a smile off my face in a hurry. Gotta stop listening to news I guess.

Yes they do and now I wish I had gone to him 4 years ago with my bum shoulder. Pretty sure I am stuck with it now.

  7. So happy for you, Patti! This is such great news. Now I want to find a chiropractor and see if s/he can fix me up in six visits. I would love that. What made me happy this week? Feeding the stray black cat every morning and watching him get a nice full belly. Purr joy!

  8. robin,
Isn't that rewarding? Proud of you. Are you sure it is a he and that new round belly isn't carrying some babies?

    1. Patti-- The good cat lady who rescues kitty cats looked him over and wrote me to say he was an old kitty. I had wondered if we should help find him a home, but she said he was so old that rehoming would probably traumatize him. He gets a lot of love there, that old kitty.

  9. Dear Patti, I smiled and also got tears in my eyes when I called the vet this morning to check on Ellie--one of the cats with whom I live. She's been at the vet's since last Thursday--not eating, not pooping.

The vet operated on Friday and unknotted Ellie's small intestines. But then there was the question of whether she would begin to eat again. (Come to find out--when a cat hasn't eaten for several days--moe than 5--she set of loses all appetite and has no interest in starting to eat again.) The vet said that if she hadn't eaten by Monday (today), they would have to insert a feeding tube. I dreaded that for her.

But . . . when I called today she was ready to come home! Now that's a BIG SMILE. Peace.

That is what I wanted to hear. I am smiling big time also. What a relief when our pets pull through a rough spot. Spoil that little girl.

  10. Congratulations on your breakup. Sounds like my kind of guy. I went to see the new documentary on Fred Rogers (Won't You Be My Neighbor?) and had lots of smiles, laughter, and yes some tears, but they were mostly happy ones. :-)

What a special man he was. I hope all those kids that grew up watching him caught his big, gentle heart and mind.

  12. To be pain free sounds wonderful.
I smiled this week when a man I don't know kissed the top of my head as he was leaving the conference early after I found his hat under the chair in front of me. Not a word was spoken ( there was a speaker at the podium) but much was exchanged. He went on his way and I was left with a smile.

  14. Awesome news.... I had no idea that Medicare would pay anything toward a Chiropractor.... I'll have to check into that.. So glad that you are pain-free (or almost) now... VERY SPECIAL.... Your doctor does have a sense of humor for sure....

I am not addicted to Costco (since there's not one nearby) ---but I am addicted to Sam's.... ha

  21. Hoorah! Pain-free! Breakups can be a good thing, eh? What just made me smile tonight was finally figuring out the cricket sound I’ve heard is coming from the TV only whenever a promo for a Spanish TV station airs. I’ve confirmed this for the third night in a row. To think I thought I had a cricket on the loose courting a partner — I’m greatly relieved!
