A GIVEAWAY

Years ago my sister gave me a Kindle and it changed my reading habits FOREVER.  I am addicted to the form.  You can set the font to a readable size, it is light weight, props up on a pillow quite nicely and since I read in bed at night, it never loses my place when I doze off. It will even read to you if you get lazy though the voice is a bit robotic.

Thus every book I read these days is on Kindle.  When Rian, who blogs at Older but Better published a book Time After Time  ,I was quick to buy her book to support her.  However it wasn't in Kindle form at the time so I bought the paper back.  I thought I could make an exception but sadly it sat and it sat untouched for the longest time.  I just couldn't get into an actual book. I am cursed. I know you book purists are shaking your heads now.

Time After Time
Can be found on Amazon here

Anyway, she recently offered it on Kindle also and I snapped it up and read it right away. Ahhhh.

I loved the book!  It is about a recently widowed 60 ish woman who is floundering a bit. She misses her husband, her children have their own lives and she is looking for something to focus on.  Thus she experimentally moves to a coastal area in Maine that she and her husband had once enjoyed.

There she does find purpose and direction with the help of some delightful acquaintances.  There is warmth, kindness, some adorable pets and even a bit of mystery.  The mystery is spawned by an old diary and a ghost that basically only she and her pets can see. One of my favorite parts.

Every character in the book I would love to have as a friend. It is a delightful, easy read and I was sorry to see it end.

But you see, now I have that untouched paper back that needs a home.  If you are interested and would like me to send you the book, just let me know in your comment. I will put the names in a hat and will have a drawing next Sunday to see who gets the book.  Even if not for you, it would make a great stocking stuffer.

Let me know.

  2. I bought her book and loved it also. I do like a hard book in my hands, but I hear you about how your life changed. I'm so glad you are giving it away, but I will continue to cherish my own copy of it and will probably read it again. So that's a "no" from me. :-)

  3. I have gotten away from reading my Kindle and went back to hard copies for most stuff. I still read magazines on my Kindle and play a few games.

I'd love to be in your drawing. Sounds like it ticks all my reading boxes.

I wish I didn't have such an aversion to hard copies. There are a couple of books I have that haven't made it to the "read" pile.
      You are in the hat.

  4. I started reading "Time After Time" on Thanksgiving Day. Haven't finished it yet but finding it such a delightful read. And, girl, I hear you about the Kindle!! I would go to the library and get a book, and could not make myself take it back before due date. I paid so many late fees. So, yes, I love my kindle and no thanks to your drawing., It's such a sweet thing for you to do but I will have my copy on my kindle forever.

Think you will love the book and the ending was great. Didn't she just write about the nicest people?
Will keep your name out of the hat.

  5. You may add my name and I'll pay postage. Keep buying books and finding them awful. Hate when that happens so if I win or not I am going to fetch myself this one. Thanks Patti. I do not own a kindle btw.

Yes, you are in the hat and no you can't pay postage though thanks for offering. It is such a small amount and I just feel good doing it. Think you ought to put a Kindle on your Christmas list. They are addictive.

  6. OMG, Patti, you are so sweet to do this. And I'm so happy that you enjoyed the book. That alone makes me feel wonderful. I too miss Annie and Jimmie and have started a sequel... but it may not be ready for a while.
As for 'real' books vs Kindle - I use both. Admittedly I prefer a real book in my hands, but do find Kindle useful on occasions and especially like the ability to enlarge the font. Thanks again for your kind post (and the review on Amazon!).

My pleasure. Oh I hope you do continue with Annie and Jimmie. I really liked those characters but then I liked them all. Not a stinker in the bunch.

  7. I love my Kindle. It is so handy for me especially now with so many doctor visits. I just stick it in my purse and I'm all set for the inevitable wait. But I still prefer to read a hard cover book at home. There's just sommething about a "real" book that I love.

Aren't they the best when you have a "wait". You didn't say about entering the drawing so I take that as a "not this time".

  11. I'm with you, I LOVE my Kindle Fire tablets. I have one of the first Kindle tablets they made, years ago now, and I paid almost $400 for it! They are much more reasonably priced now.

  12. I do have a Kindle, but I am not sold on it unless I am in travel mode. I still prefer the "dead tree" variety of book. I do like the ability to set the font size but my library has a good selection of large print books. I sometimes pick one up even though they are bulkier when it' a title I want that is not otherwise available.
So yes, add my name to the drawing because I definitely would read it.

It really is a matter of what satisfies us. So I will put your name in the hat for the "dead tree
      version.

  13. I would LOVE to have the book, it's just the sort of thing I like to read, but would you post to Australia? I have a kindle too and still read real books. I read one on kindle, then a real book, back to the kindle, then another real book.

  14. Funny. Long ago, my son bought me a Kindle reader. I used it a couple of times and put it on a shelf. There it sits. I buy hard copies. Of course, I try to buy 1st editions to collect them for our library. Not always successful tho. Lately, I'm not into fiction, so no for me. Clearly someone else will enjoy it more. Thanks, tho, for your generous offer.

  15. This post is of particular interest to me since I published my paperback book "My Halcyon Years" just this past July. I was not going to put it on Kindle but a good friend advised me to do it. Now it is on Amazon in Kindle form and I was surprised to hear that it would include pictures too. That was my main reason for not doing it since I was under the impression that Kindle did not include pictures. Evidently I was wrong and that's great since a large part of my book relies on pictures.
Thanks for all the info and I hope you will read my book and let me know what you think. I've always loved your take on things.

I did buy your book when it came out but it has sat in the same spot as Rian's. I just went to Amazon and got the Kindle version. When I read it I'll do a post and probably give away your paper back version. Thanks for putting it in Kindle form.

  19. me again Patti: If you will look at my paper back version you will see that it is loaded with pictures and they are really needed and a large part of my book. Evidently some versions of Kindle can get it but even so the pictures are just jumbled. I always thought that Kindle was words only and guess it is. So sorry for all the mixup.
the girl who published it for me is talking to Amazon too but it doesn't look promising.

  20. I know exactly what you’re talking about. I only read books on my Kindle Paperwhite now. I love being able to choose the font/size.

  21. My Kindle is one of my very best friends! I can't read paper/ink books anymore because of the formaldehyde. One of my friends recently published her memoir and sent me a copy. I had to read it wearing gloves!
