YOU MAKE MY DREAMS COME TRUE

I am pretty consistent in saying that I don't watch commercials.   Should better say that I do my best not to by recording all my TV shows so I can fast forward through them.  But some times I have to watch a live show and suffer through them.

But then one of them caught my ear and I fell in love a little bit.  It was for the T J  Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods  commercial. It just made me want to move, bounce and laugh.

I finally hunted the song down and learned it is sung by the Daryl Hall and John Oates duo (often referred to as Hall and Oates.)  It was a song once very popular in the 80's.

Hearing it all the way through was a delight. It gave me energy and made me smile. I also learned it has been the background for many commercials through out the years from Toyota to KFC.

The catchy, happy, high energy song with a strong beat seems to sell cars, chicken or chain stores.  I wasn't familiar with the duo but you may all ready know about them. I guess they were big in the 80's.

Anyway, if you feel you would like a little perk in your step and smile on your face, give it a listen.

Wishing you all a happy, upbeat, fun and safe Holiday.

  1. I know of Hall & Oates, but have never heard this song on commercials yet. Of course I rarely watch anything on Tv any more. lol

Now, I'm wondering if commercials are regional.

    1. Anni,
Me too. What I do watch I record so I can usually zip past commercials. You could be right about regional. I just checked the Toyota commercial and it was from Australia.

  2. Music generally improves my mood, Patti. But often a commercial begins with a sudden bash of noise that hastens a stab at the mute button. Perhaps I've been too hasty!

This might be one of those though it starts out with a snow scene. I too mute a lot.

  3. I had no idea that you are so "hep" Patti. That song brings back so many memories, good and bad, so I will just wish you a happy Holiday and leave it at that. Sending hugs too ...

Well they were new to me but I did like how it was woven into the commercial. It made me hunt them down.

  6. Wow, Hall and Oates! Now that's some music I would not have expected to find here or on any TV commercials. Roger and I just listened a bit to the song and had a good laugh at the flashback to the 1970s and 80s. Thank you for that. Happy Holidays to you, Patti!

  9. I remember this song, though I was a child of the 70's. In fact I saw your title and immediately thought of it. It has a great beat and catchy lyrics for sure.

Like you, I dislike most commercials. If I'm watching a live show I can pause the program, go do something quickly and come back and FF through the ads. I belong to a number of survey groups and when they ask me about certain advertisements, my answer is always that I haven't seen them. It must drive them nuts.

    Merry Christmas!

We are the ad agencies worst nightmare. It is rare when I actually see one and usually if I do, I can't remember what they are advertising. There must be enough out there who do pay attention to make it worth their while.

  10. My favorite commercial of the season (and I do think it's a seasonal one) is the one where the guy whistles and this adorable puppy comes running through the snow (girl hugs puppy)... and then the girl whistles and this huge black truck comes (guy hugs truck). That is a great commercial.

I have seen that commercial and it is sweet. I think he got the bigger gift but the girl got the better one. There are some nice commercials out there and that is one of them.

I wasn't a fan in the day but I saw where they had almost 30 #1 songs on the charts. That sure does sound popular.
Only ones I hate are those heart breaking humane society ones. Can't get past them fast enough.

  14. I missed the music of the 80's. I was between being young myself and having teen age kids, so we weren't listening much to current pop music. Catchy though.

  24. I recall knowing of that duo though I don't recall that particular song. So many of some of the better tunes form many genres often seem to get the rights to them sold for integration into commercials. They can become earworms. That's a perky one alright and we can all benefit from being perked up.

  28. Hall and Oates was our daughter's favorite group when she was a teen. We are intimately acquainted with their songs. I think Bob even took her and a friend to a concert one time.
