CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE THIRD KIND.

There are two things that I wouldn't mind experiencing. They don't hold fear for me, only curiosity and wonder.  I would like to have a face to face with a ghost or an alien from another planet. Now I'd want the ghost to be friendly and the alien not to be approaching with a knife and fork in his hands and fangs drooling.

Twice I thought I had faced my desires only to be proven really wrong.  Once when I had just moved into a log cabin that I had bought in the woods of Florida, I was awakened by an unearthly sound. It literally sent chills down my spine.  Thinking it might be a spirit, I was both excited and scared. It sounded quite demonic. Not exactly on my wish list.

It was right outside my window so I got a flashlight and peered into the dark. My ghost turned out to be a feral cat threatening my very tame pet cat. Didn't know know if it was lust or anger causing the yowl but I was relieved--- and a bit disappointed. Phew. Yes I rescued my cat.

Not too long after that in the same location, I was awakened mid-night by a roar directly above my cabin and the night turned into day. The light was blinding and I wondered if it were the mother ship or an advance team here to abduct me.  My dogs were howling and my horse and pony were crashing through the underbrush in panic.  Again I was both excited and scared.

The lights soon disappeared and I could see flashing tail lights as it moved away.  It  turned out to be an ATF helicopter that I learned the next day had been looking for druggies on the run.

That was years ago and my desire to see aliens and ghosts has really gone to the back reaches of my mind. Then the other morning I heard a strange whirring sound so I went to check. What I saw looked like no earth machine I had ever seen and it was in my neighbors yard, eating his trees. I thought once more that the mother ship must have dropped it off to attack us humans.

Its long proboscis reached at least 60 feet in the air and was devouring trees. Then the bottom half came into view and it looked a lot more earthly with huge tires. Ok, it was just the power company trimming trees out from under the power lines with a really strange machine. Cheesh Patti. Yeah, I  know, I don't have an idle gear for my imagination.

Some times I wonder if these false alarms will lull me into complacency about a real invasion or spirit meeting. Hope not.

I still think it would be neat to converse with either a ghost or an alien.  You  ever think about it?

Ha ha, glad you enjoyed the trip. May we both someday have our suspicions confirmed.

  2. We lived in a legit Haunted Historic Home for 15 Years, many of our Friends and Family THOUGHT they wanted to experience an encounter, until... they actually did. I myself have a Peace with Spirit and wouldn't stick around if I felt any of it was malevolent, nor mess with those sinister beings, whatever they are. As for Aliens, I've met some strange people who seem like they could be from their own Planet, does that count?

WOW, that would have been so cool. Bet you had lots of requests for a sleep over. Me too on sinister beings like I thought was outside my window.
You may have a point about some people possibly being aliens scoping us out. Would explain some folks I know.

  3. I have experience some stuff that was hard to explain while my redheaded roommates saw a blonde looking back at them from the mirror. I am not sure I would want to see a ghost. Also, I definitely don't want to see an alien. I would freak.

Yikes, seeing someone else in a mirror would be scary. Takes a bit of the fun out of ghost hunting.

  4. Wouldn't want to see a ghost, Patti, because I'd then doubt my own sanity. Aliens? Same thing but to a lesser extent. Used to have nightmares featuring fleets of alien space ships hovering in the sky and looking for us prey items.

Those would be nightmares. I saw a movie like that once where the so called helpful aliens were actually looking at us as a food source.

Aliens? It depends... (I often wonder if there aren't already alien beings among us... not necessarily to do us harm, but possibly to help us evolve.)

Bet they could fix this in no time with one good zap from a ray gun.

  6. I and my brother "encountered" a UFO. Over the mountains in Colorado. I still remember it like yesterday. Never had any explanation the next day, nor figured out how the circular lights just disappeared in an instant.

  7. Never wanted to see a ghost or an alien. I may have crossed paths with a few dearly departed spirits, but never an alien. Although now I'm wondering if some of the people I've met over the years are just pretending to be humans. LOL!

  8. Everytime I read a new Patti blog, I'm reminded why I like you so much. :^) Well Patti, as a lifelong sci-fi nerd it's been my dream to learn of ANY kind of extraterrestrial life, but I'm not sure I'd want to go face-to-face with one! As for the paranormal, I blogged about a chilling experience I had 25 years ago, in my old apartment building. The woman who lived on the other side of my bedroom wall often watched her tv late at night, and pretty loudly. I complained to our landlady that it was keeping me up and I had to get up early for work. It stopped. All was well for a year or so, then one night I woke up to her tv again, it was so loud. I laid there fuming for an hour before giving up, grabbing my blanket & pillow and headed to my living room couch. The next day at the office, I called my landlady and complained "She's at it again!" My landlady insisted I was wrong, or dreamt it. What the--!!? Of course not! Of all the nerve! My landlady said I must've, as my neighbor had died in the hospital a week earlier, and her apartments furniture (and tv) had been emptied the weekend after. Then what was I listening to that night? I never heard it again!

  10. my former home in the suburbs backed up against a treed green belt and I was often wakened by lights and noise until I realized as you did it was the cop copter looking for runaway miscreants. Ghosts? Aliens? I always hoped to see them. Hoped they land in my backyard when I was a kid, and take me for a ride. I always thought there were ghosts in the house my kids and I lived is Seattle. Later I mentioned after we'd moved to said suburbs ( abig mistke by the way) and both boys said they had thought so too.

I think if they are advanced enough to make it to our planet, they should have mechanical translators for any language. At least that was my hope. Just hope they are friendly.

Two other neighbors also saw it. He doesn't speak of it any more because people look at him like he was an alien when he does.

  15. Lived with spirits and saw them. So did Rick. Not as fun as you'd think but we were okay with it. As for a being from another planet. Not gotten to that one yet, but I have seen something in the sky over a tree hovering with a girlfriend. We were silent and in shock. Then he just lifted up and poof gone. We looked at each other and we were freaking out. We still talk about this sighting and it happened in the late 70s. And yes we were sober and straight. :-)

    1. Peg,
Wow, you have seen both. Were you and Rick able to communicate with the ghosts? I'd have sure tried.
Again with the alien sighting at least you had a witness. The really helps with the retelling.

  18. Never saw a ghost but experienced a really "cold spot" in a house one hot summer where the occupants said the house was haunted. Like you, I respect demons or evil entities, but am not afraid in general of running across a ghost.

Wgen I was a teenager I saw a bright light move in the sky the way nothing could possibly move. Horizontally in a flash to a dead stop--then vertically to a dead stop--sat there unmoving in the sky for maybe a minute and then zoomed off in a second across the horizon and out of sight. No other witnesses but I believe it was a UFO because nothing else could move like that in the 60s--or now. Didn't frighten me at all. I thought it would be fascinating to converse with aliens if it was possible. Always hoped they would be smarter and kinder than us. ;)

    1. Rita,
That sure sounds suspicious. Don't you wish you had a witness? I rightly or wrongly assume they are smarter and kinder than us. We know they are more advanced if they can navigate to our air space.

  19. I don't think about it as much as I used to and not at all lately until just now. Those helicopters with lights are quite common here in the city, if they hover around a particular area, we know they are looking for or keeping an eye on someone they've found until the police cars catch up; if they are speeding along fairly straight, we know they are following a car which the police are also tailing.

    ReplyDelete

    1. River,
In Florida we had a lot of choppers in the sky. Often to just catch speeders but like yours, tailing suspects. When they use their flood lights, they are soooooo bright.

  20. No ghosts or aliens that I know of. Lots of hovering helicopters here in the city near a major airport. I'm always wondering who they are chasing and should I stay inside, or will I be seeing news footage of some related story they are filming on my local evening news.

    1. Linda,
I don't think I would want to be on the road with helicopters in the sky. For usually there are a bunch of patrol cars in pursuit and that is when the innocent can get injured.

  22. Thought about it a lot the night that two fishermen saw aliens in the town about 18 miles east of us. They were terrified and banged on the door of the local newspaper where my husband was putting together the Sunday morning edition. Whatever they saw, their terror was real!

You often hear of nighttime fishermen experiencing sightings. The dark, the quiet and un-obstructive views have to be part of the reason. Also being out there while the world sleeps, has to be frightening.

  26. I am visited quite regularly with people in my bedroom at night. They have ranged from naked little African boys to very scary men standing by my bed. I have awakened my husband screaming at times. The images disappear as soon as I see them, but something really weird is going on. It's been happening for a long time and believe me, I don't ever want to see them. Not sure you would welcome a ghost standing over you in bed. It's not funny.

Twice in recent years I've awakened in the night to have a figure bedside staring at me -- one was a man at the foot of my bed, the other a very serious-looking young woman with long blond hair. I would like to talk to them.

  31. You are so much fun, Patti! My aunt told me she really did see a spirit. It was during the war and she saw the shadow of a woman she had helped on the other side of the paper shoji doors. When she opened the doors, nobody was there. She then learned the woman had died moments ago. My aunt says she’s never been afraid to die since. My aunt has been gone now for 7 years and my mom says she keeps seeing her in her dreams. I wonder.
