About tempting Fate. I thought Fate could only hear the spoken word. I didn't know he/she/they, could read your thoughts but evidently "it" can. The other day I was packing up my old medications to take to the Sheriff's disposal program when I noticed some definitely expired muscle relaxers.
'Wow, I thought, 'it has been such a long time since my back has gone out.' That chiropractor really did a great job fixing my sciatica problem. It has been 4 years since that man used his magic hands on my back making me free from pain. Yipee.
I was strutting around feeling pretty invincible when it happened. The Fates said--"Oh yeah?"
I noticed some dust bunnies behind my bookcase head board and decided to move it and clean up.
You know exactly what happened. Yep, my sciatica returned on the same day as my Fate tempting thought. The timing was too exact to be coincidence. It was the weekend so I have to wait till today to find out when magic fingers can see me and do his magic. Sigh. The good thing is that I am functional but pretty uncomfortable.
Being stove up I did something Sunday I have never done. Many of you talk of "binging" on a show. I'm lucky to get through one much less a binge. However, the couch was calling me and I accidentally landed on the show, "Naked and Afraid." They put a man and a woman in a hostile environment with no clothes, food or water for 21 days. They blur out the private parts and it is basically survival, not lust. My back was comfortable so I sat there thru 3 hours of nakedness. My first binge. It did take my mind off my slight discomfort though.
Ever say something off hand and have it come back to bite you? I would give some examples but I am afraid Fate might be listening. My warning is don't even think it.
Well,I guess I can't write anything here 'cause your specific warning is "don't even think it"!!
ReplyDeleteHope magic fingers can help!!!
Anni,
DeleteHa ha, smart move. So far I am a bit better today. Maybe don't need the magic man.
Awesome
DeleteYou are so right.
DeleteI have done exactly that, even right now I could not even think how pain free I have been recently.
As a man I know all about the power of thought.
srgb,
DeleteThanks for stopping by and for the man's point of view. And watch those thoughts.
Dang, Patti! I hope the expired muscle relaxers helped relieve the pain at least somewhat. The sooner your chiropractor works his magic again, the better. Naked and Afraid? Yah, definitely a distraction! Hope you get back to 'strutting around' real soon.
ReplyDeleteFlorence,
DeleteThanks so much. I am a bit better all ready. Those pills were out of date in 2019. Think I'll let the sheriff have them.
I have had similar things happen to me, too. I won't tell you about them because, well, you know. :-)
ReplyDeleteDjan,
DeleteHa ha, You never know where they are lurking. They may have a direct link to blogger.
Oh Patti, I'm sorry about your back and I'm especially sorry for laughing out loud at this post--but when you told us what show you were binging on...! 😂. I've never seen it but they did a skit about it on Saturday night live with Leslie Jones (a large black woman) and a little person from Game of Thrones, and all Leslie brought was a little bottle of hot sauce. I've been meaning to check out that show ever since. Anyway I hope we get an update on your back soon, and that it's a good one. PS I stayed up last night until 1:00 a.m. watching American graffiti for the first time in 45 years. I know you loved the music in it, but boy it had some great cars too! 🙂👍♥️
ReplyDeleteDoug,
DeleteThanks and it is weird about what you saw on SNL. I almost watched episode 4 but the couple were always fighting. He was a little person and she was opinionated. I only like the show when they work together.
Yes, American Graffiti had great cars.
I'd hate wandering around naked in the wild. I'd have a million rashes and insect bites and I'm cold with six layers of clothing on as it is.
ReplyDeleteI know I've had a similar experience of tempting fate but I can't really remember any details. But I'm going to tempt fate now by hoping to lose my appetite long enough to drop 10 pounds.
Jean,
DeleteGreat idea to tempt the fates for something beneficial. I may try one of those. Like maybe if I really want to see that doc, they will let my back heal and I won't get to. Worth a try.
Now I'm trying not to think of all things that might tempt those fates. Hope you're finding some relief from the pain and that you'll get to the chiropractor soon. Take care there.
ReplyDeleterobin,
DeleteThanks so much. So far I am keeping the pain mostly at bay. Keep your mind free of tempting thoughts:)
Oh no! I hope your back feels better soon. I have heard of that show but decided the people must be nuts to go on there. LOL! I know I have done that lots. Can't remember them all but know I have frequently thought, I don't need to pack a jacket, it is supposed to be warm and then I freeze.
ReplyDeleteSue,
DeleteThanks, it is improving a bit all ready.
Been there too. Isn't it amazing how they can control the weather?
It is too bad that the sciatica has returned. I hope the chiropractor can fix it like the last time. As for tempting Fate, I do it all the time. LOL!!!
ReplyDeletegigi,
DeleteYeah, I was sorry to see it return. Haven't missed it at all.
Oh no, I hope that Fate is kind to you.
I certainly hope your sciatica is taken care of by magic fingers.
ReplyDeleteTempting fate - I know others haven't written their experiences but I'm feeling adventurous. The times when I looked around and thought my life was boring, that I was caught up in a rut, were always when all hell broke loose. A new job, a move, a pregnancy!, it all happened. Since two of the three are no longer possible I'm willing to take the chance. :)
Feel better soon!
Eileen,
DeleteThanks, I'm sure he will set me right.
Well the Fates really took you out of a rut. Sure hope they know that 2 of those aren't possible:))
I am a reality show junky, but I drw the line at N and A and Dr. Pimple Popper.
ReplyDeleteI've had a 12 year arthritic hip pain free for a year now thanks to "Hempvana." May just be a placebo effect, but whatever, it works for me.

joeh,
DeleteThis was my first trip to N & A.Don't think I'd want to put it on my list but it was a good diversion. Just the name Dr. Pimple Popper turns me off.
Thanks so much for the link. I will check it out and I too have no problems with placebo effect.
Sorry for your painful back, but thanks for the warning about darn old Fate.
ReplyDeleteOlga,
DeleteThank you, I am doing a bit better today.
Beware.
Oh, dear! I have thought "Things are going so well" then BAM. So now I try to be positive but realistic. I hope you can get relief from your back pain. That's an interesting show to binge on.
ReplyDeleteMargaret,
DeleteI know, sometimes it is best to just quietly go with the flow. Back is getting better, thanks.
OUCH! Take good care of yourself and feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Housework is dangerous!
TAW,
DeleteHa ha, yes it is and thanks. I am being gentle and getting better.
I am so guilty of binge watching. Sometimes it is while I'm doing something else which makes it ok but when I sit there and push the next episode over and over, I do feel guilty.
ReplyDeleteBarbara,
DeleteThis was my first time binging. Since I was confined to the couch anyway, I didn't feel guilty.
Yes, here too.
ReplyDeleteMage,
DeleteGood to know I am not alone.
Sorry about your back. I have enough going on with me right now that I think Fate probably doesn't want to bother.
ReplyDeleteIsn't fate why we say "Knock on wood"?
Linda,
DeleteI know you have your hands full right now. Hoping that is soon behind you.
That's is what I was supposed to say darn it.
As usual your posts are right on! Sorry about the back issues. Live and learn, another old saying. Take good care of yourself.💖
ReplyDeleteSusan,
DeleteThat I am doing and thanks so much.
Fate is eavesdropping? Oh dear. ohdearohdearohdear.
ReplyDeleteI hope your back feels much better soon.
River,
DeleteCan't trust that varmint not to listen.
Thank you and I am getting a little better each day.
I will not even say them for fear of them rearing their heads!
ReplyDeleteEven if feeling a bit better, go see magic hands.
Of all things to binge Patti. 😅 that made me chuckle.
Peg,
DeleteWell I am somewhat better but am putting off visit to handsome doc with great hands for now. Think I might be coming out of it.
I know, maybe it was because I was comfortable and didn't want to reach for the remote. It was an experience:)
Is going without a mask tempting fate? Guess it depends on how you look at it. I'm not chancing it and may well be a 'forever' masker. As for binging, we do on occasion... especially on a cold rainy day.
ReplyDeleteRian,
DeleteWell with Covid coming back masking may become just as vital as putting on our clothes. Don't know if I will binge again but who knows?
Naked and afraid, what a concept. One time at my brother's house I caught a glimpse of the show. Obviously, he was playing/watching it that day. We are big readers so it is entirely possible he was reading with the television on in the background. lol
ReplyDeleteSorry about your back, that is painful. I hope you get help. Chiropractors can really do a lot for you.
Ann,
DeleteIt is a weird concept and I know I could never do it. The insect bites are fierce, the hunger and cold would be horrid for a 3 week stint.
Thank you, I'm improving daily.
Well I had a similar experience a few years ago though it involved taking a pill that targeted nerve pain rather than muscle pain. Fortunately though some years later I found the pill bottle was only half empty and the magic fix worked again Ray/Troutbirder
ReplyDeleteRay,
DeleteSo glad the meds hadn't lost there effectiveness and worked for you.
Oh gee... I have some meds I was thinking of turning in sometime too. Now you got me worried. Naked and Afraid? And these people signed up for that? Wow! That's confidence for you.
ReplyDeleteWe just watched the new Reacher on Prime Video and it was bloody and gory. Not my kind of movie. However, it kept me watching it too. More to my liking was The Adam Project on Netflix.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your back is back to normal right away. Ouch!
Kay,
DeleteEven in my younger days I wouldn't have signed up for that show. Those people really have a terrible time. Don't have access to the other two you mentioned.
Back is much better thank you.
Hope you get your back fixed again. Fate does have a way of getting us sometimes.
ReplyDeleteJoared,
DeleteThanks. Doing much better with just rest and being gentle with myself.
It happens so often to me that I am afraid of even
ReplyDeletespeaking out loud what bothers me. Of course it could be just old age !!
Ginnie,
DeleteKnow what you mean. I don't think Fate ever sleeps so we have to be careful.
Wow! I haven't heard anyone say they were "stove up" for years! My parents, especially my father, used to say that all the time. Thanks for the memory.
