COLD HANDS

The old adage, "Cold hands/warm heart" to the best of my research was started by folks with cold hands.  It was an attempt to make an unpleasant contact almost an advantage.  Warm hand people have no need for sugar coating.

Anyway, I have had cold hands since my 20's.  The feet are fine, but boy are the hands sensitive to cold. Now if it is warm out my hands are normal but any place chintzy on heating and especially after eating will ice them right up.

If I haven't had chance to warm them, I probably won't shake hands with you but will most likely put my hand on your shoulder and give a squeeze or if I know you, go in for a hug.

Recently I was having lunch with some friends and one of the ladies is a 94 year old wonder. She is hard of hearing but otherwise healthy, active, sharp and with a quick wit.

We were getting ready to leave and she leaned over and said quietly, "My hands get so cold in restaurants."

"Mine too." I countered.

She then reached over and touched my bare arm with her hand.  Yep, her hand was cold.

I then reached over and touched her bare arm with my hand.

With out a pause she said flatly, "You win."

That cracked me up and we giggled out the door.

Now we all like to be the best at something and it seems that day, I had colder hands than a 94 year old.  But hey, I have a really warm heart.

Ever been proclaimed the best at something that probably wasn't an asset?

  1. When spring comes I feel like I am thawing out. I have frozen every winter since I was a small kid. 🤭

You have had a long affair with the cold. Hang in there, spring is coming.

  2. Love this story. I want to enter that contest. My hands are always cold, I even where finger-less gloves in the house.

  3. I don't get cold hands often, and if we are hiking and stop for lunch, my hands get cold but don't stay that way for long, once we start moving again. I can't think of anything I'm good at! :-)

You are smart to keep moving. I only get in trouble when sitting for a meal or such. You are good at lots. It is what you are best at being bad that gets you the title:)

  4. Toasty hands most of the time here, but I did enjoy reading about that conversation as you left the restaurant. It echoed some thoughts from your previous post and reminded me of the rush of fun when you make an unexpected connection with with someone.

Being in Florida is a help. And yes you are right. We did have a quick but special connection.

I'm not good at anything Patti. That haunts me.
I don't even have something like this to say.
I'm boring and pitiful. I'll go whine now

Honestly, not having anything to answer to this post is a big plus. You go girl.

  6. I have always had cold hands. I don't know if they're the coldest hands ever, but they are pretty cold all of the time. My twin brother and I were just talking about family traits. We're both very impatient, not sure which one of us is the most impatient though. Although, I'm going to guess it's me!

Good thing you are in a relatively mild climate. Interesting that you both have the same one though it figures being twins and all.

  7. My hands are always cold. I tend to wear sweatshirts or sweaters with pockets so I can keep my hands warm. Best perk in my car is a button to warm up the steering wheel. Cold as my hands always are I hate wearing gloves. At night I wrap the sheet around my hands as I sleep.

Me too on shirts with pockets. I have on a hoodie now. Oooh, I love the idea of a warm steering wheel. I do wear gloves but they don't do the trick all together.

Well we could stick our hands and feet out the door today and feel pretty good. Isn't that sun beautiful?

  9. When it is cold inside or out, my hands are cold cold. Some luxury cars have heated steering wheels. Right now my hands are cold, as is the tip of my nose.

Ah yes, sometimes I do that tip of the nose thing also. We both need summer to come.

  10. If my hands are cold then it is really cold. People who have occasion to touch my hands usually remark about how soft they are. I guess I don't work hard enough.

  12. Cold hands and cold nose here. I guess I don't shake hands very often as i haven't thought about greeting someone with cold hands, but just the discomfort of it.

I think that is more common than the cold hands. At least it is usually good for a laugh in those romantic comedies.

  14. I have warm hands all year round. In the late winter here when mornings were frosty people shopping at my checkout were often given a quick warm-up from me. They'd say "my hands are frozen", so I'd hold their hands for a bit. I did the same for some of my co-workers too.

  15. Oddly as I age my hands are warmer. My whole body seems hotter especially at night. What I seem to be is too loud. It seems although hearing was tested I have no volume control and so many people gently tell me to lower my voice. Too loud is a weird plus but there it is.

See, that is why I avoid contact. It just isn't pleasant for the other person. Has she had the condition checked? She is so young.

  17. Hi! I came over from DJanity, where you left a comment for her. I clicked on your link...

At 70 I've heard most all adages. Cold hands/warm heart is one of 'em. For me it's my feet. When it's cold & damp, I tend to wear fuzzy slippers at home. A cement foundation probably has a lot to do with it. Who knows. One I can't figure out is lucky in cards - unlucky in love. I'm lucky in both. Go figure.

    I consider ME a winner...visiting with you.

Welcome to TNS and you came from a great blogger. Wonder why there is no adage for cold feet?
Great that you are lucky in both cards and love. Enjoy proving an adage wrong.

  19. Just today I was signing some paperwork for my new apartment. I am borrowed the lady's pen to sign three of four papers. It didn't take very long. When I handed the pen back to her she commented how warn my hands were. My feet have started getting a little cold but never thought about my hands. Guess I'm the warm hands/cold feet kinda girl.

  21. Well, I can touch my nose with my tongue. Not exactly a lady-like gesture. My hands don't get cold, but my nose does -- often. Not to say I warm it with my tongue. But.... Oh, my. I've gone off. My nose gets cold. Period.

Hope all is well with you. I have missed you. My back is better and I am ready to try posting again. We shall see! (hugs)

  23. Warm hands here, in fact most of me is often too warm...which leads to other issues. I think it is due to the extra weight I carry.

Hmmm...can't think of anything unusual physically. I'm pretty average!
